NEW APARTMENT OPENED TO THE PUBLIC:
ATTRACTIVE UNITS MARK VELCLIFF
OUTLOOK, August 21, 1937
Striking in design, modern in construction, the recently completed Velcliff apartments overlooking the ocean are today open for inspection and lease at San Vicente Blvd, according to the owner, Clifford F. Reuman. The building has 11 units, eight with one bedroom, two with two bedrooms and a penthouse with three bedrooms.
As seen from the outside, the architecture is an example of unornate beauty, having a white stucco finish, a stainless steel trim around the building and porch roofs, and large pane windows assuring plenty of sunlight. The apartments were designed by William E. Foster, architect of Beverly Hills.
FLOORS HARDWOOD
Comfort as well as appearance was planned for in the new building. Each unit has a ventilation system, automatic circulating hot water, a short-wave aerial, Electrolux refrigeration and unit furnace heat. The interior of each apartment is the last word in design and equipment. White, both inside and out, each unit has floating floors and suspended ceilings built in each room in order to make the walls absolutely soundproof. The floors are of hardwood, the sinks of tile trimmed with stainless steel.
LIGHT INDIRECT
Indirect light, brilliant but easy on the eyes, is shed from bracket light fixtures, made of stainless steel and glazed glass. The bedrooms have plenty of closet space and disappearing beds. A steel stairway and fire escape circles upward at the back of the building. "In all my years in the building business," said Earl Becker, superintendent in charge of construction, "the Velcliff apartments are one of the most beautiful and soundly constructed jobs I have ever worked on."
